Frequently Asked Questions

What makes The Dancing Room different from other dance studios?

The Dancing Room was created specifically for young children. Just as we recognize that preschoolers learn differently than older children in a classroom setting, I believe early childhood dance deserves the same level of specialized attention and care.

I hold a degree in Dance Education and have spent nearly 15 years specializing in early childhood dance. Through my education, experience, and work as a mother of five, I have thoughtfully developed a curriculum designed to meet the unique developmental needs of children ages 2–6.

One of my core leading beliefs is that children should dance like children. The movement, music, costumes, and themes used in class and recital are carefully chosen to honor, celebrate, and protect the sacred and precious season of early childhood.

My classes focus on the foundational movement skills young dancers need most, while fostering creativity, confidence, and a love of movement. Classes are intentionally kept small—typically 6–8 students—so each child receives individualized attention in a nurturing, family-friendly environment.

What type of dance do you teach?

Early childhood is a unique developmental stage that requires a specialized approach to dance education. My curriculum is designed to develop coordination, balance, agility, flexibility, rhythm, musicality, dance vocabulary, and gross motor skills while building a strong foundation for ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance.

Classes also incorporate creative movement, choreography, improvisation, and age-appropriate compositional concepts to encourage creativity, confidence, and self-expression. My goal is to help children develop both dance skills and a lifelong love of movement.

Can my child try a class before registering?

Yes! You can sign up on the website to be notified when upcoming trial classes are available.

How much do classes cost?

Tuition varies by class length:

  • 45-minute classes (ages 2 & 3) : $45 per month

  • 60-minute class (Ages 4+): $55 per month

There is also:

  • A one-time annual registration fee of $30 per family

  • A recital fee of $75 per dancer

There are no additional costume fees or ticket fees. Recital admission is free, and each family receives a digital photo album from a costume picture day at no extra cost.

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Yes.

  • There is only one annual registration fee per family.

  • The recital fee is $75 for the first dancer and $25 for each additional sibling.

Additionally, boys receive 50% off monthly tuition when a sibling is enrolled in any other class.

Do you have a recital?

Yes. Families have several opportunities to see what their dancers are learning throughout the year:

  • Classes are livestreamed to a private parent Facebook group.

  • A parent observation day is held each December.

  • A year-end recital is held on a Saturday morning in May.

The recital is typically one hour or less, free to attend, and held at a local school. There is no dress rehearsal. I strive to make the entire experience—from registration through recital—as simple, enjoyable, and family-friendly as possible.

What age should my child start dance?

I offer classes for children ages 2–6, with age placement based on your child's age at the beginning of September for the dance season. Each class is designed to meet the developmental needs of the specific age group, helping dancers build confidence, skills, and a love of movement in an age-appropriate environment.

How many students are in each class?

Class sizes are intentionally kept small, typically with 6–8 students per class. Smaller classes allow me to provide more individualized instruction, better support each child's learning and development, and create a positive, engaging environment where every dancer can thrive.

What if my child has separation anxiety or has a hard time being away from me?

Because The Dancing Room specializes in early childhood, every aspect of class is designed with young children in mind. The routines, environment, and flow of class help create a cheerful, predictable, and welcoming experience, making the transition into class smooth for most children.

If your child needs extra support, that's okay. Caregivers are always welcome to sit in on class to provide comfort and reassurance. I work closely with each family to support children at their own pace and help them build confidence and independence in a way that feels safe and positive for them.

My goal is for every child to feel successful, secure, and excited to come to dance class.
